Master Study Workshop
SUNDAYS 4PM – 8PM

For students with strong knowledge of figure/head construction. This workshop focuses on interpreting the unique characteristics of a selected master (e.g., Rubens, Sargent, Velázquez), with emphasis on color, composition, structure, and likeness in the Alla Prima tradition.

Instructed Atelier Workshops
A fast learning program based on academic principles and strong fundamentals. Our workshops are built on live demonstrations where the instructor draws/paints alongside you. By following the academic process step-by-step, you see and hear the purpose behind every decision you make. These fundamentals build the groundwork for confidence in any creative field.
Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, this program emphasizes fundamentals that translate across disciplines, including fine art, animation, illustration, background design, character design, graphic design, architecture, and more.
The instructed atelier workshops follow a rotating structure rather than a fixed subject schedule, utilizing on-screen & printed references. Develop core drawing and painting skills through a progression of focused studies that repeat and build over time.
Areas of study the program will cover:

Tonal Drawing Landscapes
Tonal drawing focuses on shapes and values to create strong form, volume, and composition. Simplify shapes, master perspective, and distinguish tone from color to enhance your work. These techniques build a solid foundation for alla prima painting and confident visual expression.

Painting Landscapes Alla Prima
Paint landscapes directly on the canvas in one session using wet-on-wet technique. Build the painting from large shapes to final details while controlling light, color, and composition. Practice decisive brushwork to create dynamic, finished landscapes in one session

Figure Construction – Drawing
Figure construction focuses on breaking the human body into basic shapes to build accurate form, volume, and gesture. Practice proportion, line of action, and anatomy to create balanced, dynamic figures.

Painting Figures Alla Prima
Paint the human figure in one session. Simplify the body into basic shapes and build form, volume, and gesture directly on the canvas. Focus on light, proportion, and tonal relationships while using color.

Drawing Portraits – Head Construction
Head construction focuses on building solid forms from the inside out using shape, symmetry, proportion, and gesture. Learn to capture likeness while understanding the structure and volumes of the head in three dimensions.

Painting Portraits Alla Prima
Shape features and planes while rendering light, shadow, and volume. Develop accuracy and confidence in expressive portrait painting.

Master Study Workshop
SUNDAYS 4-8PM
Two-part workshop, held over two consecutive Sundays.
Focus on classical painting techniques in the Alla Prima tradition with an 8 hour, hands-on workshop, split into two 4 hour classes. Study a master painter—such as Rubens, Velázquez, Rembrandt, Bouguereau, Repin, or Sargent—and analyze color, composition, shapes, volumes, and likeness. Plan and complete a painting in one session using block-in strategies for values, proportions, and silhouette. Practice color harmony, brush economy, and edge handling to build confidence and strengthen your classical painting skills.

I. Focus on Art & Maintaining an Instructional Environment
This studio is a dedicated space for technical instruction and creative practice. To maintain a productive learning environment, we ask that all conversations remain focused on art and the curriculum at hand.
Our workshops are designed for focused study. To respect the time and experience of your fellow students and instructors, please refrain from introducing outside social, political, or personal topics during class.
II. Attendance, Cancellations & Credits
Booking & Session Use
To ensure the quality of the Atelier experience, sessions are booked as full 4-hour blocks.
- Arrival & Setup: Doors open 15 minutes before the session begins. Please do not arrive earlier, as the instructor needs this time to prepare the studio.
- Easels: We have a limited number of studio easels available on a first-come, first-served basis. We suggest bringing your own portable easel if possible to ensure you have a setup you like.
- Session Completion: To keep our instructor’s focus on the art and not the clock, we book by the session. You’re welcome to arrive late or leave early to fit your schedule, but each entry counts as one session toward your credits.
- Cancellations & Refunds: Because our workshops are small and planned around each participant, we don’t offer refunds once a workshop or package is purchased.
- 24-Hour Notice: If you’re feeling under the weather or a conflict pops up, let us know at least 24 hours in advance and we’ll happily pause your credit for a future session.
- No-Show Policy: Because seats are limited and the instructor prepares for each artist, sessions missed without 24-hour notice will be forfeit.
- Emergency Situations: If something urgent happens last minute, please reach out and we’ll do our best to work with you.
- Transfers: You are welcome to gift or transfer your unused sessions to another artist. Simply notify us in writing of the change.
III. Enrollment & Expiration
Expiration of Credits
